I have a few questions concerning using a wood lathe to turn a pickup. My knowledge is very limited so here goes. 1. The lathe turns toward the operator, does the direction of the windings matter? 2. Which would be a better counter a mechanical or…

thanks Mr.Toad...its always nice to get some positive feedback...im gonna keep on till i can rock it
Thanks Mr;Toad, for your kind words, so you are a Muddy Waters fan then are you? Greetszz A.D.
Thank you so much for the compliment! Don't be shy about sending one of your guitars to a service member, it will be greatly appreciated. "Basic" ones are the real CBG tradition anyway. Mine are over-built hybrids.
Thanks Mr. Toad. The strings were an A,D and wound G from an acoustic guitar set. Tuned G,D,G. Not sure of the exact guages but I think it was acoustic light which makes it a bit heavier than electric would be. I kinda like the sound of the wound high G which you don't often get on electric sets.
Sounds like a plan.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I had a few problems when I put it together Saturday, but I am pretty satisfied with it. Let me know if you want to come over and see it. I also sent a picture and details to a popular Guitar blog and he posted it today. You can check it out at: http://guitarz.blogspot.com/2010/04/vikster-homemade-shortscale-bas...

Here are two suggested string sets (My guess is you will have better success with the GDG tuning; either will work):
GDG tuned Wound 045, Wound 030, Steel 020 (2nd choice Wound 020)
DAD tuned Wound 030, Wound 019, Steel 014
Our Easter Worship service for Medical Lake Community Church is at 10:30 am at the High School on April 4.
