Fingerpicks
Hi Kenni, I noticed that it looks like you wear your finger picks with the pick side down rather than the pick part against your fingernails. Is this something you find more comfortable picking? My picks tend to grab too hard when playing with them against my fingernails and fingerpicks also tend to come loose as a result Thanks, Wade

If the action is too high, when you fret notes with your fingers, it actually bends the note out of pitch. The correct string tension is created by scale length, string gauge, and tuning. Too tight, locks up the instrument and it cannot vibrate the soundboard correctly. Too slack, the strings cannot create enough energy to produce a good tone and volume. Neck angle, nut height, and bridge height create correct string action (height from the fingerboard) There is not a set height but many factors have to be coordinated together. This is why a good craftsman produces quality instruments. There is a lot to consider.

Thought I'd try to get some conversation going here on the 'Bottle-neck slide' group.
So here is the first question for you folks:
What have you found to be the ideal action height (i.e. how far above the frets should the strings be in millimeters)?
So what I am talking about is a CBG that has frets, that we will be using a slide on.
A second question:
If too low of action results in rata-tat-tat as the slide hits the frets, what is the downside of too high of an action?
Hopefully we can get several folks commenting on this!

Not sure I heard Miss. Red. Can you share a Youtube video here?

Thanks for sharing David. I very rarely cover contemporary artists. Mainly early blues performers. Currently I am busy working on second music CD with Bill and producing instructional material. I figure out songs using my knowledge of musical theory. I am sorry I cannot be of more direct help at this time, but this song should not be difficult to figure out. You simply need to do more research and work on your fundamentals. Enjoy the hunt.
Keni Lee,
any chance yuou could give us some hints on how to play the Railroad workshong the Notting Hillbillies did on their album. Harry Manx does a version on a six string banj on Road Ragas which is on youtube...it's right up your alley. great, old, blues song.
