I have built a few dulcimers and will put up one photo. I got interested in strum sticks today. they look like fun. I would like to build with a shorter scale. Would a mandolin length scale work?

Hi folks,
I need some advice about this box I found - can it be used for a dulcimer? If it can, what would be an appropriate scale length (I am thinking the fingerboard would be longer than the box). What do you think?

I have just finished the 5th one in this series of mountain dulcimers, using two paired boxes. This last one has a cherry fingerboard, maple neck and two Las Cabrillas boxes. The others are in my pictures, if you'd like to see them.
