Strum Stick Scale

Howdy folks,

I have built a few dulcimers and will put up one photo.  I got interested in strum sticks today.  they look like fun.   I would like to build with a shorter scale.  Would a mandolin length scale work?

  • Great, I like those boxes for smaller instruments...

Sam, I built a mandolin scale (14 inch) strum stick yesterday using a small, thin topped Ahston box. It sounds pretty good.
I have been dissapointed in the sound on my mando builds and this little strum stick rings out so nice, that I think I will see if I can add a 4th string and convert it to a 4 string mando.

Thanks. I think a short one would be comfy to play. I may try one on mandolin scale.

I regularly build them in the 14-19 inch scale lengths.... they sound nice and bright when build on a thin top box....
