Dulcimer fretting, JI or Chromatic?

As I go forward making instrument I am wondering when making the dulcimer fret scale do I go with Just Intonation or Chromatic? I think I will be using a noter.

I take it you mean JI vs a diatonic subset of 12ET (rather than chromatic, which would mean all 12 notes)

12ET will be more in tune with other instruments if you're playing in a band.

JI will sound better. This is actually true even if you are playing in a band if you're mostly playing melody over drones rather than playing chords.
