  • Here’s the Fret scale calculator:

  • Tony, to build a weed whacker bass, just make it the same way you would a regular cigar box guitar, but make the neck longer, use bass tuners & weed whacker string, it’s that easy? Scale length is 30” get a template from the Stewmac scale length calculator? String gauges are: .080 / .065 - 2 string   .080 / .065 / .050 - 3 string  very easy, don’t overthink it?

  • Never met Dave in person, but had many chats online…have not made a canto…but look under resources tab…there is a section of free plans

  • Lots of plans in the Resources tab, take these plans & convert them to Bass (30” scale length)

  • Never got to meet Dave Lynas, was in Duluth once, but schedules didn’t work. After Dave passed away, I called this shop that sold his pottery. Went to Duluth, used GPS to find the place. But somehow wrong street name was entered. I ended up at a private residence that I thought was someone selling crafts out of house. knocked on door and stepped in…then realized I made mistake and was standing in a living room.  Hurried back to car, this guy comes out in a bathrobe wondering what was going on. Think Dave would have got a laugh out of that

  • Seeing this pic in your album, you know how to build an instrument already, jus build the same thing with a 30” scale length & use .095/.080/.065//.050 weed whacker line for the strings? It’s that easy?
