I'm starting an 8-string tenor uke, tuned Gg Cc aa ee. I have that trapezoid La Flor Dominica box, or maybe a bigger Indian Tabac that is still in the stash. The LFD is rather shallow but quite large. The Tabac is more than 2" deep.

building a baritone uke -
A group of teenagers around here want to form a uke orchestra, starting with a trio. I'm making them two sopranos and a baritone, and we will make more as the orchestra grows.
Here is the question: can nylon strings work for the baritone? I worry t
tying on those strings?
I don't want a standard uke bridge on these three ukes I"m building, with the tie on/bridge all one part.
But with a plain-end string, you can't just run it through a plate on the tail end with a hole drilled in it.

How do you cut a slot in the neck for the nut?
I don't have a lot of fancy tools here, how do you cut the 1/8" slot in the neck and how much should the nut be above the fret board?
