    Uncle John I just used regular drill bits. The holes aren't tapered, just a larger hole on one side. I made the peg out of oak and shaped it with a rasp.

    Thanks, Charles.   Did you use regular drill bits on the head stock 'tuner' holes?  Are the holes tapered?

    Glen, I used the 4th string from a pack of Martin bronze acoustic strings.

    Uncle John the friction tuner works really well. I was very surprised. I'm working on a three string version now.
