Play drum head with finger tips, it also changes pitch of string if you push on it. Stick can play string or body for percussive sounds. Bamboo body,coconut shell,skin head (ew!) steel string,carved wood figure.

when friend or family travel, thats what i always ask for, forget the t-shirt, just some cheap handcrafted musical instrument, the weirder the better..
ive been doing this for prolly 17 years.. and i'd advise any of you to make similar requests to your loved ones.. sometimes its amazing what you get..

This is identical to one I bought in Bali (Indonesia) years ago.Never thought to hit it with a chopstick,tho'.I always thought it came from Sumatra,though those Balinese "antique" store owners will tell you anything! I'm gonna give mine a whack.
