Thanks for all the comments guys. The lathe is a great tool and I hope to get some video of my technique for making the necks as well as turning the body and fitting the lid someday soon. I especially appreciate the comment about inspiring you to build a CBG Paul.
I didn't have a lot of problems with the smell ssg. Walnut seems to be the one that smells bad to me. I got hold of some from a cow pasture once. Whew, smelled like the cow was in my shop.
I'm doing a demonstration for the Waxhaw Woodturners Club in Waxhaw, NC on the technique the first Tuesday in December. If you have the time and can get there it would be great to see you.
I'll post pictures of the finished product once I get it done.
Very Nice , workmanship Raymond , love the spalterd Sycamore it's one of my Fav woods , but i hate the smell of it while turning , it's got a musty smell to it know what i mean ?

Ahhh, yes, this gentleman and is beautiful turned guitars is what got me interested in building a CBG. First one I ever saw was on a wood turning form done by Raymond. Beautiful work. Wish you'd put up a video of the sound.
