  • Thanks for the kind words and inspirational video! Wow, just when I thought life is tough sometimes!
  • Welcome Al...I just joined the Ohio group yesterday. You do some really nice work. I especially like the Brass Lass. Is that hinge you used for a tailpiece just a stock home depot/lowes type item? I noticed you're a big fan of the "Dulci" fretting. That's what I'm currently working on.
  • thanks Al..the scale i use is 24.9 inches, i think it just looks long cause i use 24 frets
  • Hi Al,
Well, when i made the uke i didn't have a taperer so i tapered them as best i could by hand. I have in the mean time bought a taperer and will redo these pegs to give them a better fit. They are quite thin and i had used old bobbins. The wood of these was quite dry but if you were to buy some new ones, it would probably be do-able. I too love the look of them. Good luck with your building and send me a note if you use them and let me know how it came out. BTW, there are more video's of me on 'The Uke Box' youtube channel. Enjoy!
  • Hi Al,
Thanks for your comments. My peg tuners are made out of lace bobbins.
You can find them online. Here is a link:

  • Hey man. In response to your bridge question, it's a piece of stainless steel tubing and a couple of tubing clips.... Great aesthetic and sounds good.
  • Glad to have ya as a friend brother, even if ya are retarded I mean retired...
  • Al, I'll be interested in hearing about the uke build and seeing photos. I'd like to try it, but I think I'll get a little more knowledge and ability before I attack that monster.
  • Thanks for the comment Allen. Your builds offer some great ideas for us newbies.
  • hey al my scale length on the whiskey d-bows are 24.75 scale. but they could be made with any scale length.the dowells start out at a 36 inch length but i usually cut them down after i figger out the proportion of the overall instrument. i usually leave 3-4 inches on either end of the build, but that is just my way it don't have to be cut at all. i use 2 different size dowells the whiskey d-bows have the larger size dowell which is a 1 in. dowell. on some of the cigar box builds i use dowells that are 3/4 in. like the vintage san felice build i,m workin on right now has the 3/4 in. dowells in it. take care al---talk wit ya later.
