Hey all. I recently built two 4 stringers that are 22.5 inch scale length. I gave one to a musician friend and still have the other. Both guitars have been played with, and both guitars have had the same problem. Before I go on, I am not really…
Read more…Hey all. I have another question to throw at ya. What is the thickness of wood that most of you use for a fret board? I have been having a little trouble getting some frets into 6 mm pieces of wood, but have no problems with 9 mm pieces of wood…
Read more…Hey all. I was hoping to build a 6 stringer on my next build, and would like to make my own truss rod for the build. I am sure there are many out there that have already done this, so can you teach me what you have done? Is it possible to just…
Read more…Hey all. I posted this same message at the IT GOES TO 11 group, but only got one reply, so I thought I might try the rest of you, too. I am a first timer trying to put together an amp using a CHAMP AMP kit. The instructions for wiring the kit are…

In responce to your question about Truss Rods - the ones i use are bought they are the two way type and made from Stainless steel i think they work out about £9 UK or 1148.87 Yen which is pretty cheap and they work very well and only require a 11mm X 6.5mm groove cutting in the neck - there are other types out there like the Stewmac hotrod which is also a two way type but requires a lot bigger groove to fit it - as for the screw Rod method i can't really comment on it as i have never tried that method but i would think using screwed Rod you would need at least a Rod of 10mm to do the job right which would cause problems as the thread is M10 and the nuts that fit a M10 Thread are 17mm spanner size which is a big chunk of metal - you may get away with using 6mm screwed rod but i'm just gessing to be honest - for what a real truss rod costs i just save the guess work and buy them from Ebay
hope that helps
juju.
KEMO also have a premade amp (2W?) in a resin block that saves the problem of soldering, you only need to connect the input, battery and speaker.
I have put together a couple of the Jaycar style kits and have found that if I take a little time and keep the solder joints neat and clean everything seems to work.
Up in the Free Resources menu at the top, you will see a number of plans for building and playing cigar box guitars/ukuleles/banjos/dulcimers/violins. I encourage you to download any of the plans, take a look at them, and ask questions from there. Also our site is VERY searchable. I bet you your questions have already been asked, so take a few moments and look around.
