a song that relates to the pit ponies that worked below ground in coal mines. In some pits they were actually free to roam during the August Bank Holidays......

  • thanks Derek, Jim, James, Uncle John, Wes and Pick........... its' been a while. You know that feeling we sometimes get when you get 'stirred up'. A mate of mine bangs out a lovely poem of coal mining days and he allows me to turn them into songs 'when I get the urge'. I vividly recall pit ponies in our village coming out of the mine every August (when they did shaft maintenance for 2 weeks). They were allowed to run free for their 2 week holiday, then back to work in down below. Miners loved their ponies and always bring a treat for them each shift. Wonder they didn't burst. Thanks again, was thinking of 'speeding' the tune up a little. Any feedback would be appreciated. I like to write songs but I don't have a clue what I'm doing. But I'm happy.
