I AM GOING TO BUY A 29 MM PIEZO PU FOR MY LICENSE PLATE GUITAR. I AM WONDERING IF I SHOULD MOUNT THE PAD UNDER THE BRIDGE ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE LICENSE PLATE OR IS THERE A BETTER PLACE TO MOUNT IT. I HAVE EASY ACCESS ALL UNDER THE LICENSE PLATE SINCE THE BOX OPENS UP STILL. ALSO THE NECK IS A THROUGH BOX NECK IF THAT MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE. I WAS GOING TO PUT A PRE AMP PU IN BUT THE BOX ISNT WIDE OR DEEP ENOUGH. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Man, how do you guys do this time and time again?! It's sucking all of the joy out of the hobby for me. :)
A little while back I made a 4 string lap steel, I recently finished a 6 string version trying to refine the design(thank you National New Yorker).

Sadly, today brings the passing of Phil Emmanuel, lesser recognised brother of Tommy, guitar virtuoso's both, although Phil never really played the guitar hero role, he was a stellar performer, and side man par excellence, Vale Phillip.
For number four I used my last Winterman's box and a piece of oak for the neck. Didn't realise oak would be so hard to work...... I faced the headstock off with a piece of cedar from a broken box to match the body. This one's a 25.5 inch scale acoustic (no piezo this time). The string spacing is a little wider than usual just to see if it's any better for fingerpicking with my arthritic fingers.
Hi guys, I finally organized and edited some of my music for online listening. These 2 albums are all old time blues music played on cigar box guitar. NO singing, NO band, NO regular guitars. These recordings are only authentic Delta Blues and slide cigar box guitar.
All of this music was recorded with only 3 and 4 string cigar box guitars. NO regular guitars. In these recordings, I wanted to record authentic Blues and Bottleneck slide cigar box guitar as realistic as possible. My goal with this music was to take the listener back to the 1880's and up to 1930's. I also recorded some Electric 1950's bottleneck slide to recreate and relive those long lost sounds.

Her ist a video wich shows how it works
Too much been going on lately, I haven't even caught a CB Gitty Gang show in the last like 2 months at all.. Between sorting Star Trek CCG and WoW TCG cards for sale on eBay, doing swap meets, making soap, other excuses...
I'm prepping inventory for a Cajun Festival coming up Saturday the 26th - home made guitar things and soap and my gal's making bath bombs.. Should be an awesome day..
Been working a lil on the canjo stuff in preparation fro this Cajun Festival booth thing... have a new video uploading now.. not a lot to say other than, yeah, I'm still here somewhere.
So for number three I decided to reuse the neck from my cheapo cardboard blues box guitar. My box choice was limited to the notch size on the neck. The depth of the notch was increased a couple of mm to let the lid resonate a little better. This sounds way better than the cardboard box and will definitely get picked up and played.
happy to announce Bare Bones Box Guitars can be purchased at Shotgun Coffee in Hobart beginning next month . They are also having a open mike day and nights got to love HoBo town it’s got it going on .
My latest build, #8 - "LA DOUCE" - neck-around six string nougat tin guitar:Big shout-out to the folks here on CBN and especially to Korrigan, Kigar and Taffy Evans! Without your advice, encouragement and inspiration this guitar wouldn't have come to be.
- 21.5” scale length. Short, but still very playable, actually quite comfortably so, except for the highest two or three frets.
- Neck made from a 4 by 2 cm piece of oak, finished with five coats of clear lacquer. I usually prefer oil finishes, but this oak was impossible to sand as smooth as I like it, so I opted for a lacquer finish this time. Turned out nicely and allowed me to add the spray painted red stripe on the headstock. But I still prefer oil finishes.
- The fretboard is rosewood (with a thin layer of walnut underneath to give me more height over the soundboard), the fret dots are made from a plastic coat hanger and the side dots from Q-tips. First time I used these materials, worked great. Frets are medium/medium nickel-silver.
- Because the tin lid was definitely not strong enough to withstand the pressure of six strings I X-braced it. Took me two attempts (beware of the stuff they coat food tins with to make them food safe. This stuff does not react well with epoxy!) So far it seems strong enough to counteract the string pressure. And to give the tin more stability I glued a thin piece of plywood to the bottom and spray painted it red.
- The nut is bone, the bridge is a store-bought ebony and maple banjo bridge, the tailpiece is made from a fretboard scrap.
- There is a piezo rod embedded in the bridge plate. Sounds surprisingly tame and isn’t very loud. Not at all what I expected from a piezo that sits right on the metal and directly under the bridge. But through a preamp it produces ok volume and nice sounds.
- Strung with 6 nylon strings in three double courses. Tuned to eE–bB–e’e’ – so basically this guitar is to a three string what a twelve string is to a six string. Works really well because it has the full tonal range of a six string while at the same time also sounding like a three string.
This little guitar lives up to her name (and to her former life as a container for delicious French sweets): She sounds really sweet. She’s surprisingly loud acoustically and has much more sustain than I expected from a little tin like this (maybe the pretty massive oak construction around the tin helps with the sustain?) And when played a little more vigorously, the tin starts singing in slightly distorted overtones – beautiful!
I’m really proud of this guitar (can you tell?) – definitely my most ambitious build so far…
I have been reading a lot of the postest. I had no idea there was such a variety of homemade instruments. I will be building my one CBG soon and I would like to lean on the Community for help ideas and encouragement .
Thanks

Cigar Box Johnny Amps, Guitars, & Speakers
I craft custom cigar box guitar amplifiers, guitars, and Bluetooth speakers. I purchased this Artec 2.5-watt pre-wired amplifier circuit board and "Psycho Box" PCB pedal board from C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply, which has a great reputation in the CBG community. This is my first build with Gitty and I was pleased as punch. I coupled the "Pycho Box" with the Artec amp, and a CES 6.5" 5-watt speaker and got great sound.2.5-Watt Pre-Wired Amplifier Circuit Board - Great for homemade amplifiers!
Sorry for the double post!....I just wanted to share this. I will be making more hand made cigar box guitar pickups, I thought I would post here as I am making them in the next upcoming week. They will all have vintage Americana and Tobacco themes and will be for sale.
Here is a short video of them. If you sell guitars you can add value to your instrument by adding one, they also have a great look.
they will be posted For sale at the website
email me and I can tell you about the different models I will have.
I am always getting asked and I took a break from making them but I am going to make some so I thought I would post here in case anyone was interested.
These are different than other pickups being made and they are completely unique and original.
once again here is the website, http://www.reddogguitars.com/
iv'e not been on for a few, anyways i been steadily learning and building on my four stringer and she's about done. i had a few setbacks where i went to drill holes in the fretboard and the holes splintered into a mess but i fixed that problem with overlaying an 1/8 thickness board after sanding the fb clean next i just need to add fret markers which they have to be a bit on the thin side so i'm figuring on using silver colored bailing or crafting wire... the look i'm going for this being my first one is rustic and it sure fit's the bill haha but i tell you what... this cgb has a story to tell if ever it had lips lol
So this weekend I built number two - a diddley bow made from a broom handle and a Henri Wintermans box. The box cracked when I was putting a sound hole in but I think it improved the look of a pretty boring box. I stuck a piezo in there and strung up with a low E.
Just been busy with other projects and things. .. cleared out of a storage unit, prepping yard sale type stuff to sell at swap meet.. figuring out soap recipes. getting an ebay store started...
Just wow I miss this stuff.. need to build something this week just get that groove back.
