  Menard's near me just started carrying hickory in 1 inch thickness.  It looks and stains nice and works well.  Wish they had it in 1/4 inch, which is what I like for fretboards.

  Wow!  Where do you get hickory?  I have not ventured past the Home Depot for wood.  My father gave me a giant log of cherry for my birthday.  Unsure what to do with a giant log.  Perhaps I will ask the nation.

  Thanks, Papa.  The neck is  hickory and the fret board is oak.  Both stained with walnut and then 'candled to age.'

  Wow! Cool box and I love what you do to give the neck a weathered look.  Is the neck pine?
