Does anyone out there have any idea of what type Timber this is ??.It's from my trusty recycled Piano, which was made in England in the 1950's, I'm thinking Oak ?? of some sort or possibly Maple ??

Yep! Jerry Jordan, Beech it is, and in my opinion any "Free Wood" is useful ;-)
I'm with you David Bowes, I happy to refer to it as Beech.
Just had a quick sniff Moritz Voegeli, and it smells like Wood :-)
I would say Beech.
Just for control as we are only guessing on base of photos - I would like to know how it smells...
