before that, cut your veneer, or any thin material, photo, etc., on a piece of glass, sharp razor knife. the blade glides on the glass, no way to get a sharper cut.
so on youtube, this guy shows spreading regular wood glue on the veneer, and on the mating surface. let it dry till tacky, almost dry. then get a piece of brown paper bag, heat an iron to the cotton setting, and iron on your veneer. it's absolutely amazing.

Nice marquetry. Is that the right word? Very nice. Same for the frets.
