Three Three

Kind of the third go around and rebuild with this one. I replaced the box top with a piece of plywood. The Dan Sleep Pickup sits atop the box due to a miscalculation on my part. My Indian name is Screws Up Plenty. The pickup looks cool to me this way, and works great. But it is vulnerable to bangs and knocks.

  • Will look for the photos.

  • Ya, JUJU's a fellow that i met on CBN. He does great pickups. You could use those spools to make pickups i suppose. Good for guards too. I just got my slides out of the kiln last night. They came out good and seem to work slick. I'll post some photos today later (after gardening).
  • Thanks, Jabes.  Did my driving a lot of backroads jobs and yesterday and saw 25 species of birds.

OK, Dave.   That's why you call it a Juju pickup.   I picked up some old wooden thread spools yesterday and considered using them for pickup guards.   Not sure yet....

  • John, would that i could make a pickup. No, JUJU from England made the pickup. After i whacked it, i sent it back and he rewound it. :^)
  • oh, i like that John,

  • Yup, Jb.  Many of us have lost sleep thinking about what was next and how we were going to do it.   I've done some rubber band guns too.  Thanks!

Dave I re-read your comments,  good on you for making a pickup.

  • Nice looking. Like the background also. Just started making them myself. Got two almost finished and another three in my head and some of the materials. Made walking canes for a while, then rubber band guns, now its cigar box guitars. Love them, every one is unique.

  • Thanks, Dave.   I will consider some kind of protection.   Have not come up with anything yet.

  • I managed to "knock out" a nice hand wound JUJU pickup on a diddly due to my exposed neck pickup situated just like yours Uncle John. Good luck.... Of course i was using a stick to play the diddly. I revised mine with two wood "chin guards" to protect my rewound JUJU from further attacks. This one is another beauty Uncle. You're on a run.....

  • Thanks, Jim.  The plan was to use an f hole cover from Gitty over the hole I cut.   But the cut f hole passes the eye test well enough for me.
