Appalachian mountain-style banjer for the man himself, Hollowbelly, This has probably been the toughest build ever for me..trying to keep a simple Shaker-esque style to the thing but making it road and stage-worthy. It's only the second banjo I've ever made, and it has been a very steep learning curve. I feel that I'm beginning to inhabit a sort of philosophy, without getting too artsy-farty about it...no exotic tropical hardwoods....all native European and Northern American timbers..cherry, walnut, beech and maple. It's a deceptively crude instrument, and it's made me realise how skilled were the artisans who originally made this style of instrument.
