I am planning on using a heavy rubber mallet. I think I will attach a hardwood shim on the bottom of the sliding piece. John - Should work with the frets out of square. You should build a fret miter box though - http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/fret-miter-box?context=user . This has worked really good for me.
