My very first home spun cone! 5 5/8" accross, 35 mm deep. Ok, so its rough, on account of the copper being far too thick and difficult to work (took about an hour to shape this one!!), but the theory works. Next stop, order some very thin aluminium, and make a tool with a little wheel on the end for super quick and professional cone spinning :o)I will be popping this in a build sometime soon just to try it. If it fails, it will become an ashtray.

Things are still on hold at the moment - lack of time and funds prevent me from sorting out a former to press the flutes in and form ordering the rather expensice alloy.... Il get there eventually though, and keep you posted! In the meantime, check out Old Lowes brass cones - theyve been going down a storm :o)
Great job Ben. I was hoping someone might "crack the code" of home cone spinning and it looks like you're the man to do it! Will you add flutes to your form when you go to thinner material?
Amazing work... keep letting us spy on your progress.
Believe me, my spherical organs went into hiding when this thing was spinning round at a few thousand rpm! lol
Thanks for your comments guys. I think spinning cover plates might be a good thing to try with this thick stuff - its defo too thick for cones though. Like 5 times too thick. Thats the reason for no swirly sound channels too - they are to add strength but this just doesnt need it.
Maybe Il be experimenting with some other materials in the near future... watch this space!!
Ps Kettle is on Brian :o)
wiillmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.i think i just fount another new hero.call barney and tell em to get in da car we going to England.
Good effort Ben thats superb for a first try , the guy i bought the former from said he learnt by using thin aluminium serving trays like what you buy for parties ect also food containers like you get your takeaway in , if you can master spinning something that thin then you've cracked it the alloy i bought is 0.03mm but it's not the cheapest !

Nice! I looked at all the pic's of the proces and am very impressed! The spinning looks like a nice way to make a coverplate for those badboy's too! But why no swirley uhmm... soundchannels(?) in the cone like resocones have?
What would one of those puppy's cost ? I smell 6 string reso cbg!!!
