Resonator Uke ~ tenor size ~ LOUD!

17.5 inch (44cm) scale uke. Kind of a relic style.Yardstick fret board. Hammered bean can resonator from my friend the Maddog. Home made box. Micarta saddle. Zero fret with wood string guide. Scrap metal tail piece.Currently tuned DGBE or DGBD with the 4 small strings from a 6 string set.Very loud and reso sounding. Pretty good intonation. Finger chords well while still allowing good slide sound without a lot of fret rattle.I've never had a reso uke before and the sound is 'different'. I will have to figure out what to play on it and how to use it.

  • Titch the Clown would say you should play some blues on that thing. (on his page on instructables.com)

I've got one in the works...1886 brand box, using a dollar store cat food bowl for a resonator. If that proves to be too much mass, I'll switch the bowl out for a paint lid or something.

  • Thanks, AGP.

  • Very generous gesture  by the Maddog, that reso looks like it could be "Pure Gold" ;-)

  • Thanks, Jim.  I just finished a long playing session with it.   Pretty useable.   I used medium frets and should have used smaller ones.

  • Good looker! (The uke, not UJ.)
I really like the unique fingerboard design. Glad the project worked out well.

  • Looks cool Unc. Look forward to hearing it.

  • Thanks, Jerry.

  • I like it.,.,good job.,.envious of that reso  !!

  • Thanks, Pick.

Yup, Dave.  It is fun to go back and try to improve the older ones.

Playing this one, this morning, the day after the build.   Pretty good!
