In the electric guitar building class I took from Charles Fox, he said the classic Fender headstock where the longest string is highest treble string allows for easier string bending as opposed to making it the shortest string. That is another perspective, for what it is worth. I don’t bend strings when I play, so it doesn’t matter to me. I am curious as to what the rationale is for making the bass string the longest. Especially, if it improves the tone of the bass string!
BTW, there's a thread over in the forums discussing "the rules" of CBG building. This is one everyone forgets. The "correct" way to build a headstock is exactly like this. The longest string should be the lowest string.
