To finish it off, I wrapped the coil in thin yarn, then soaked the yarn in shellac. A nice rubbing of shellac on the wood itself and it's all done. The shellac seems to be enough to keep the yarn in place and protected, but I think it'd still come off if I wanted it to. There's no size perspective in this shot - the bottom plate is 3" and the top is 2-3/8". It's intended for a 4-string, but it's big enough for a 5-string. The bottom of a Strat pickup is about 3-3/8".
