Nut nut

A nut (or saddle) made out of a nut. These are tagua nuts, also known as vegetable ivory. Unfortunately the nuts are hollow, but if cut carefully you can get long enough pieces for nuts and saddles for 3 and 4 string instruments. They really do look very much like ivory, but are much kinder to elephants.

  • You would need very strong teeth. The nuts are about as hard as ivory. If you develop a taste for them, let me know.

  • So, you can eat it?

  • Hi Dan, Clockwork and Uncle John.

Dan. The problem is that you don't seem many taguas roaming in the wild these days. The remaining ones are mainly in captivity in zoos, so it is difficult to chase them because of the bars. I have had these in my workshop for over 25 years so I'm not sure where you would get them now. Probably somewhere that sells supplies for marquetry.

Clockwork. Have you seen many fossilised brussel sprouts? Do they make good guitar parts?

Uncle John. Thanks for the suggestion (not the first either). I have got used to Roadkill though.

    All the best.

    John

  • Mr. Innovative.   Great ideas.

  •    It looks like a fossilized Brussel sprout...

  • I most certainly am. Thanks Wes.

    All the best.

  • Hi Randy and Dan.

Randy. I'm sure they were fantastic. Do you have any photos?

Dan. All this talk of nuts and nipples will get me thrown off the site by the admin. Oh. You are the admin. Does that constitute entrapment?

  • Why yes, yes you have.

  • I use to carve on those...great for skulls !!
