Yep, waiting for the glue to dry, made a hardwood nut which is clamped as I write, will groove for 3 strings, then find proper placement for hardwood bridge, groove and glue/clamp in place and THEN gonna play a bit, maybe put up a vid clip. Variations on stock instruments always get my eye/ear, like Big John Williams 9 string, Uncle Crow builds and such. So the tone is pretty cool on this. I -may- have to pop a little epoxy in a thin crack on the face, another on the back but if they (or either) don't buzz once re-strung w. bridge and nut glued in place I'll leave 'em alone. Fun sittin' out front on the street playin' blues fingerstyle and w. slide... just dog-legged it last night and enjoyed a bit of air while folks passed by. Spacing strings w. best gauges should be ok on the neck, won't go too heavy. No Unc I don't really play mando though I've done a very little on my solo records once or twice. I so dig 3 stringers/blues so that's where I'll keep this one. Thx Unc, nice hearing from ya! -Glenn
Great find. I would probably have paid 50 bucks or more just from this glance. I hope you have er making music again. 3 string or 8 or something in between. Hmmm. If I had her, I would be tempted to make her a four to take strain off the neck and body. Do you play mandolin, Glenn? Mandolin Glenn has a nice ring. They are very easy to play in the keys of G and C with 2 finger chords.
Thanks BrianQ. The bridge and nut are chewed up so I'll just replace both w. some hardwood. Likely just keep the tuners as is, use 3 of 'em for a 3 stringer, glue the bridge in place when I get the intonation right and then can finger or play slide on 'er... blues... that's how I roll :) Thanks for the info. too. -Glenn
Kool, Harmony made A style! They built those with 75+ year old Maple & Spruce tops, major mojo!!! Those tuners aren’t original tho, original tuner buttons were oval Waverly’s? I had a Maple Burst that looks around same (early mid 60’s) That’s gonna sound awesome!!! Lucky you, I’m jealous :)
