They sound terrific! Stretching the metal allows them to really ring!!!
I made a form out of many layers of cardboard and screwed it down to a potter's wheel. I used a broomstick and some WD40 to make things go smooth and shape the lid. I have also hammered them out with some auto body hammers and a sand bag.
tell me more about this makeshift lathe .,.,I just got a few lids and I'm not sure whether to spin them or hammer them out.,.no lathe around here but a few old drills n motors.,.

They have a very bright, loud banjo sound acoustically. The CBG in front is a paint can lid that I made on the make shift lathe.
