Country Roads Banjo

A commission and my take on the Country Roads Banjo: 21" scale length, GDgd (42,26,18,12), alder neck, not sure what the fretboard is (some exotic wood that I had a piece of), a clone of a flatpup pickup, banjo head from the plastic container my wife's peach tea comes in, and lots of 3D printed components. This was a challenging build and I'm glad it's done!

  • Great news on that call from Phil! Well, that's how it goes. We think we're pretty well set up in a way of doing and folks come up w. ideas and off we go learning more. Cool! Keep it up my bro! -Glenn

  • Wc! It's quite cool! I built a couple using 2 liter plastic bottles by cutting 'em square, tacking sides to box, hitting plastic w. a heat gun. Very banjo-like sound, very cool tone and a fair bit louder than I thought they'd resonate. Fun! But yours here is far more elaborate. -Glenn

    • Thanks Glenn! An update on the Country Roads Banjo. When I saw the call coming in from Phil (who is very familiar with your music) this morning, I was thinking there might be a problem with his guitar. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that now that the strings had settled down and he altered the tuning that this guitar and his guitar style dulcimer are his two go to instruments. I was relieved! He also began the conversation for two more CBGs! Phil is single-handedly broadening my building horizons.

  • Thanks for the high praise Glenn! I thinks it sounds good, but I was playing it upside down with just 1-finger chords; not optimal. This is the first guitar I have done with GDgd tuning which is what Phil wanted and he was pleased. I liked the chimy sound of the guitar style dulcimer I built for him much better.

  • That is AMAZING Doug! How's she sound? -Glenn

  • Thanks for noticing Uncle John! I 3D printed a ring with all the holes to use as a template for the big hole, the screw holes, the plastic cutout, and the line to paint the black ring. I worked out better than I expected.

  • So many great details. You spent some time on this one!

  • Thanks Jonathan! I hate to admit that I have a tendency to kinda make things up as I go on a one of kind build.
