I *love* these Chateau Real boxes for Dulcimers - fantastic sound. These are going to be part of my inventory at a roots music festival in April. Some walnut necks, some oak.

  • Acoustic and electric (dual-piezo in the bridge).  And yes, double-harmony strings, tuned D-A-D-D.  The saddle/nut on the strung one was just recycled from another 4-string guitar, so it doesn't have the two harmony strings close together.  The final nuts/saddles will be configured like that and make the dulcimer more-or-less ambidextrous (the saddle and nut are free floating, turn them around, and re-string and you have a left-handed dulcimer).  I've been having a lot of fun playing the one thats strung in the photo - its kind of addicting.

  •    Nice! Acoustic, double harmony string?

  • I've only got the one oak neck strung up so far.  But, walnut and oak are pretty similar so I doubt there will be much difference.  The walnut is slightly less dense, I think, so I may be surprised.  I've made a couple of walnut-necked guitars that I've really liked, but until now I haven't had anything to do a real side-by-side comparison with.

  • Very nice.  Do you notice any difference in sound between the walnut and oak necks?
