Decisions decisions!!

I doubled up a couple Saint Luis Rey boxes so I could fit some lawnmower jewelry and this Epiphone pickup. The tops of the boxes are hardboard and the bottoms are thin plywood. I originally planned to use the tops as the sound board, but was afraid the hardboard would be difficult to mount the Briggs debris screen securely. So I laminated some 1/8" plywood to the inside. Problem is, the tops resonated ok, at best, before adding the plywood and now they thump like a rock in the ground. The bottoms however, sound great. Plugged in, I think the guitar won't care which is the soundboard and which isn't. Unplugged, it'll like the bottom best. Hmmmm. I might put a shine on the bottom with some oil and pretty it up enough to be the soundboard. I may also hunt down a big Briggs and Stratton sticker to carry on the theme. Ideas?

    Wichita, I already jumped the gun and laminated the entire top with 1/8" plywood. I've decided on the bottom with a sunburst kind of paint/stain job. Posting a picture in a minute.

    :)  on the spark plug.  Be sure to gap it correctly.

    If you really want to use the top, back it with thin strips of hardwood where the mounting bolts go through.  That will get you a secure mount.

    Brent & Jerry, I'll have to kick this around for a bit. I'm thinking about a couple Briggs and Stratton decals in the right places on the bottom if I go that route...just to add some character to the front of the guitar. Either way I do it, I think it's gonna be a cool one!

    Uncle John, in a sketched up plan I have on a sticky note, I have a spark plug jyst above the neck with the wire going into the box. Great minds think alike.

    It's beautiful, but somehow I crave a stubby Briggs and Stratton spark plug.   Maybe on the box or maybe hanging from the headstock.  Don't listen to me to much, my esthetics are lacking.

    The look of the tops will be hard to beat. I'd say make this one an electric and play it plugged in.
