Dan and Maureen

I learned today that Dan Sleep has died. I have known Dan for quite a few years through this site and elsewhere on the internet and we used to have transatlantic chats on Skype. I got to meet him for the first time last year. He and Maureen took us around Mount Vernon, where this photo was taken. You can't imagine a more charming person. Nothing else to say at this stage. R.I.P.

  • That is a beauty Rev. It will make a great tribute guitar to remember Dan.
  • I have one of Dan's pickups too - - I've been waiting to use it on a special build.  RIP, Dan...

  • I love Dan's flatpup pickups. I own several and got two new ones just a couple of weeks ago. One was sent incomplete. I will cherish these wonderful pickups. We'll be hearing from Dan every time we play a Sleep pickup. Thanks Dan.
  • Saddened to hear this.

  • So sad to hear about Dan's passing. He was the first CBN member I met in person and got me interested in CBG's for Service members. He will be missed but fondly remembered.

  • Couldn't agree more UJ. He had such a warm generous nature. Meeting him was a real treat that I will cherish always.

I suspect that many users of this site don't realise how much work over so many years he put in as an administrator, making sure that everything ran smoothly. Also did a lot for the Wounded Warriors program as well as organising for service personnel to get cigar box guitars. He did so much, but did it so quietly that most of us didn't realise the full scale of his contribution.

  • Ohhh.   So sorry to heat Dan passed and I hope he flew away to glory.   What a nice and happy photo.   Thanks, John.
