Castrol "Classic" oil can guitar

I've made a few oilcan guitars, but followed Roosterman's tip and took the top off with a can opener to install the centreblock in this one...a lot easier than my technique of threading the neckstick thru the neck cut-out.

  • I started doing these with a thru' stick and threading that in through the neck pocket cutout..really tricky. The other option is to cut the top off and then you've got full access to put in a centreblock, various bits of reinforcement to stiffen the can ends and then refix the top.
  • Great guitar John but I'm trying to get my head around how you made it. If you took the top off the can with a can opener then how did you fix it back on again - and how come it looks un-molested ? However you did it, the results are impressive, but I'd love to know how.
  • Sorry..no build pics....my advice is just make sure its got a big piece solid piece wood inside and you're good to go.
