  • Uncle John (and any other curious folk)
Got this mando finished and strung up in standard CGDAE mando tuning. Sounds good, but the C is a bit floppy, which is a common complaint with five string mandos.
I'll put a heavier string on soon, but for now just tuned it up to open A, eaeae.
This little guy is FUN! I will be building more for sure!
  • Huh.   Tell us how it works out.  I tried a double G with one G an octave lower one time.  Did not sound 'right'.   Try some stuff.  You can always double the G with standard tuning for just a bit more low end.

  • I'm thinking of adding the low C to a normal GDAE, for some versatility.  So CGDAE, or an open tuning of some kind.... I'm a sucker for drone strings.

  • It's a 15" scale, so it's going to be quite portable.  I'm really excited to see how this thing turns out.  This has been an incredibly fun build, with lots of learning.  I won't need much of an excuse to build more of these!

  • Looks great.  How will you tune it?
