  • Hey Jabes, i assume those tunings are from low to high string? I can't wait to see how you've rigged your lap. That beautiful piece of wood! Should be a looker....

  • Thanks Wes, she feels comfortable. Jabes, thanks for the tunings. I use an Em tuning. It came on one of the laps in my collection. I've got most of my tunings from buying laps that were tuned that way. Nice way to gain a new tuning. Hope your lap build is singing for you. And chunky's not so bad. I like a big woman in my lap....

  • hi dave,i've all but finished my 1st lap steel , just need to fashion a piece of bone for the nut. while looking into tunings i recalled Dave Gilmour of pink floyd uses a lap on a few of their songs, so i made  few enquiries.

so here is what i got .Eminor-EBEGBE       and   D  DGDGBE

i've made mine a bit too chunky, don't think it's gonna be easy on the lap ...a table top will be needed, good fun to build tho'

  • Thanks Uncle John, she plays mighty nice. I"m liking this new tuning. Very expressive. Can't remember who gave it to me though. I've got a few nicks in me too. These Fender Champs are tiny guitars. Light too. Nice on the lap...

  • Ahhh.  Nice git and photo.  I am glad you left the nicks in body.

  • Hi Maddog, ya I've been playing it ever since it got tuned earlier this evening. It sounds different with the metal tail. It's more metalic. Not in a bad way. It's a cool axe. It has a Benson Custom pickup. It's handwound and made for a lap steel sound. It's good. I love your batch of items for your sale. You have some classics there Maddog. Must be the Prairie... I've tuned this one: top to bottom, D,B,G,E,D,G. A new tuning i just picked up from one of the fellas on Nation.

  • Now that's cool Dave!
