You plant your crops and pray they make it through the drought, wind, hail, floods, twisters, bugs, weeds....ect. If it all pans out you harvest your crop in the fall. Then start over in the spring and roll the dice again.....and pray.

I used to harvest wild shitakes in Oregon along the coast. Traditional, ethical pickers would find them and only take a small amount to sell or for their own use. When the buyers were giving big $ it got dangerous. Mushroom poachers would rob pickers at gun point on the remote tree lined coastal dunes. Others would go in with rakes and destroy an entire mycenial colony to take everything. A shame. Shitakes go great with steaks, mmm.
Well I like Morels Jim so I am sure I would like shiitakes. We don't get them in our neck of the woods, at least I've never heard of them around here. I'll have to do some research and see how far a guy would have to go to find some.........Road Trip!!! :-)

Bracelets on criminals! He probably tells folks he's in the jewelry business. Shiitake is a Japanese mushroom that grows on oak logs and tastes a bit like portabello but meatier. There are claims of medicinal qualities but the flavor is what I like. I grow small amounts myself on logs that get holes drilled in them and then innoculated with spore medium. The logs produce for several years and it's the easiest gardening I've ever done. Let me know if the bracelet guy changes his mind.
I'll check the taillights next trip up to the farm.

He puts tracking bracelets on recent parolee's so he said he needs to install a few more bracelets on some criminals and he'll have the money. Them farmers do live risky in WV doubling farming and music together! :-) I have to ask, what's a shiitake?
Real nice Maddog! Is this one spoken for? Several of my friends in WV are farmers who are also great musicians - talk about a couple of real risky ways to try and make a living. One of them grows mainly Shiitake mushrooms and has Alpacas. That's not traditional WV stuff but it's still agriculture. The shiitakes are delicious - haven't tried alpaca yet.

It would look great by your antique shop. A lot of those old vehicles would have the year of manufacture on the taillights.
