Maddog resonator - hammered bean can

I saved this old wreck of a Silvertone some time back and converted it to a tenor (4 string).Over time, I decided I did not like the sound of it. I got the nicely hammered bean can reso from Maddog this week and made the conversion to reso today.First impression on sound is good. Improved for sure.

    That sounds delicious, Wes.  We had nachos last night with fresh tomatoes, peppers and onion from the garden.

    Thanks, Gary.  24inch scale.   Just sitting here playing some Sunday morning Gospel.  Liking it more as I play.

       No, I think that was my other Silvertone I was thinking about in the story I wrote.

    I really like the marriage of the reso and the old Silvertone UJ!

    Makes for a nice sittin' on the porch while the rain hits the corrugated tin roof pickin' git for sure!

    126, I like these old Silvertones too.  In the 50s and 60s a  lot of people's first guitar was a Silvertone from Sears or the Sears catalog.  I like them, but I am never to pleased with the sound, which I would call boxy and dry.  

    By hammering the lid, Maddog thinks he added strength and tone.   I think so too.  My next day opinion on it is this:   Volume and tone improved - warmer and a fair bit of that resonator sound.   It's not a national, but it really  made this a better guitar for me.

    And I like how it looks.

    Very cool Unc! I've owned (and still own!) many of these 3/4 scale Silvertones. I generally mod them by adding vintage pickups but never tried a reso conversion. I recently sold a guitar just like this one along with a matching Silvertone Archtop to a local musician. Fun instruments!
