I love Cold Mountain. I have seen Oh Brother about 12 times (at least) and Cold Mountain about half that. Read the book Cold Mountain too. The first half was s l o w going,
Yes a good film Uncle John with a real 1930s music theme. Have you seen Cold Mountain ? That has a great soundtrack with Jack White, Riley Bagus and Tim Eriksen . Its also a very good story.
If you want to see some nice home made banjos, check out photos or videos from Flatfoot Johnny and Jim Morris. Jim has a vid on how to use plastic from soda bottles to make banjo heads.
Yes, clawhammer is fun and to me old time is as much a sound of America as are the Blues. I certainly would like to have a crack at a home built banjo. I do have a fretless Proffitt style 1930s poor mans banjo but a true CBB would need to be built of bits and bobs to be authentic.for now though all my spare time will be focused on learning the CB Guitar .
I love claw hammer. Not that I can play it. So many options for you. Make a 5 string and play it banjo style - I bet that you will do that at some point. Tune this one DGB and use it like a banjo with just 3 strings - I play that tuning a lot. Or kind of learn a new thing, GDg like in in knotlenny's lesson. You likely will get the most instant gratification with DGB.

Thanks Marcus, no doubt I've caught the bug now.
Malcolm, if you like old timey music, somehow watch the movie 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou.' Great movie and music.
Lookin' good!
