I thought I'd start a place where we could post about any CBG or blues related events here in the UK. To let each other know of anything coming up or just tell us about something you've seen that we might be interested in. Any regular clubs, odd gigs, tv programs ow whatever.
I'm going to start it off and tell you about a gig I'm going to tomorrow right here in my little residential town in Yorkshire. Too late to book now but if you like blues you might find this band appearing somewhere near you. It'll be the 4th time they've appeared here and they are great. They are the Blues Band. Frontman from the original Manfred Mann band and radio 2 blues program presenter Paul Jones is still belting out some great blues in this band. Tom McGuiness also in the Manfreds plays guitar along with Dave Kelly. I can really recommend seeing them if you get the chance and it won't cost an arm and a leg. Here's a link to their site. In case it doesn't work (never seems to for me) it's http://www.thebluesband.com/http://www.thebluesband.com/

Unfortunately for you I'm not involved in organising any events - I'm far to poor and lazy!
My reason for writing about Ludafest was to get people aware of one of the lesser known events. I understand that some events are on a knife edge for financing and the more events that there are means the more chance I have of listening to some live music.
Let's hope that someone else will read this diatribe and give your friend some work. Regards from 'Pigsick Pete'

I don't know if anyone is interested as it's a bit out of the way for all you Londoners but I'd like to make you aware of the 'Ludafest'. It's billed as a Blues festival in Louth in Lincolnshire. http://ludafest.co.uk/ Since the closure of the 'Blues of the month club' in Cleethorpes theres not a lot going on around here so I'd like to help promote whatever is happening.

Anyone going to Cambridge Folk Festival this year? I'm going and very much looking forward to seeing Seasick Steve. I'll be camping with friends at the Cherry Hinton campsite.

Ian Siegal is a terrific performer (and not just because I've supplied him with one of my Stella guitars and bottleneck slides in the past!). Close your eyes and you'd believe Howlin' Wolf was on stage backed by Muddy Waters on slide guitar..amazing!
If anyone is in the area on the 26th of March 2010 you might like to check out Ian Siegel at the Terry O'Toole Theatre, North Hykenham, Lincolnshire. I've never seen him play a CBG but it's still going to be a great night if his previous gigs have been anything to go by. http://www.iansiegal.info/home.html
butlins skegness rock & blues, has a good cross section of bands it runs fri to mon with bands on afternoon and night.cost me about 75 quid this year and that includes meals! this year we saw the blues band, nine below zero, eddie &hot rods(if you like that sort of thing)and one refreshhing band called the smoking jackets. last few years weve had wilko johnson, john otway and the hampsters. my old favourites dr feelgood were missing this year though, but i suppose they do need to have a change.only prob is its always last w/end in jan and the weather can be iffy for travelling but you really wont get better value. give it ten years and we might get seasick steve (after the fire dies down!) any how if you like music youll love this. mind you somtimes it takes the so called sound people a couple of bands to get it right, and as you know it can make agood band sond s---e.bloody kids! bass bass bass bass.
