Hey y'all, I chose to ask this question here rather than the Reso Hangout forum, since I get the impression over there they are a little less DIY (erhm budget minded) when it comes to gear. Makes since, you got an expensive antique instrument, really,
Screwed up in a big way! Working on a CBG on my picnic table aka work bench when I knocked off my box of tuner parts(see where this is going). Living in Fla the land of sun and sand, lots and lots of sand. To make a long story short, I need to replac
Good morning everyone
Just wondering what size fret wire people use on their builds. I usually use medium/medium for frets and a jumbo for 0 frets. I have built a dulcimer using finish nails ( a real challenge to level fretting). I was thinking of tr
I’m pretty new to building cigarbox guitars. I got an MGB mini box bucker 2.0 pick up and I’m trying to solder it to an economy 250 K volume tone jack harness. I’m not sure what to connect or what. On the diagram you can see wires 1,2,3,4 and 5. Basi
Trying to finish this three-string with Bridge pickup and preamp for some reason when I plug it in it has a buzzing noise and it Mellows out when I touch the strings almost like it's a bad ground not sure why
What is the correct way to install this pickup? Have two by accident and it appears the two screws go through the top of the box through springs and onto a bottom fixed plate, the oval used for the lid cutout has no room for error.
Been a great year with a number of new builds that came out better than expected. Also met a ton of new builders here on the forum. Some amazing talent out there. Keep me humble.
On my last discussion regarding cigar box joinery, I uploaded some final pics of the guitar I built with dovetails. It turned out fantastically, but I made one crucial error I suspect is something a lot of you have already dealt with and over
I am planning a cookie tin guitar/banjo. I’m wondering if it would have a better sound if I use the bottom of the tin as the front of the guitar, and put the lid at the back. Has anybody tried it both ways?
I’m brand new to making cigarbox guitars. I’m on my second one. I’ve been reading everything I can about how to put a rod PIezo under the saddle. I bought the Piezo and the Jack in the picture. I cut the end off of the Piezo . Now I need to solder th
Made it today in a few hours. Still need to add some sound hole covers or grommets. Looking forward to learning how to play her. I guess I need to go get a slide now. Critiques welcomed!
I apologize, but I haven't figured out how to rotate a picture
Build stronger than I did. Make the base plate 2x4 or 6 and use 1x4 for the butt piece, headstock, and 'fretboard area'. No dado-ing that way. Glue and screw. I think the basic design works.
I have routed a couple pup cavities with plexi route templates, and have noticed that the bit, even with it's bearing, is marring the edge of the template. Antone know why that might be? The bearing spins freely and the set screws are ok.
When notching the neck under the lid for a single coil pickup, what is considered too deep that would weaken the neck? I have two 1 x 2's in the box so a total of 1.5", coil depth is 3/4".
