Thanks for the responses and good tips. I 'should' get busy and reduce my hoard. Thanks again and this info will help a lot.
it costs £41 to send a CBG to European countries from UK because of the length,USA could be double.
I bought a Lowebow off John Lowe last year, the whole thing including shipping and customs duty cost about £400....
When I ship cbgs or other guitars, costs between $45 to $65, depending in locale. I've shipped to Canada and USA from here in Canada. Tariffs, import duties, etc. are always left to the buyer to deal with, and therefore I don't add that cost to his or her invoice. They pay for the guitar and shipping only. Here in Canada, export paperwork to send out to USA has gotten a slight bit more complicated, but not a big deal. For shipping boxes, I go to a local guitar retailer and get their cardboard boxes that come with their received instruments, for free. Those are usually semi-triangular in shape, and I then cut to size and re-shape to a slender rectangle to fit the specific guitar I am shipping. Size and weight matters in shipping, so I get the box as small as I can, making just enough room for the guitar and a protective layer of bubble wrap. I also keep styrene foam packing bits from any retail items we happen to buy. Those make good, light corner protectors.
For taping the box, I skip the clear packing tape and use Tuck Tape. It is red, sized like regular packing tape, it will stick baby shite to a diaper, and its color adds a bit of "hey, be careful with me, I'm fragile" accent to the box for those lazy "box-tossing" postal workers.
I get my boxes from Uline, they are 36x12x4 and most of my CBGs fit just fine and there is plenty of room for bubble wrap and other padding material.
I have sent quite a few overseas, and the post office is the cheapest and is usually under $50 USD. Australia may be a bit higher.
Tariffs are usually paid on the recipient's end. Most people get around that by marking the item as Gift on the customs form.
If an item is under 4 pounds, you will need to fill out the small customs form. If the item is over 4 pounds, you have to use the larger form instead.

It takes roughly 10 to 14 days to arrive, sometimes less.
Dan, what is Uline?

I buy them 20 at a time. It may be easier if you go to your local U-Haul store and buy a lamp box for 6 bucks and cut it down to the size you need.
