Solid body Ukulele with handwound pickup

Technically this isn't a ukulele because it uses steel strings and a magnetic pickup, but it is uke sized and I play and tune it like one. I made it from yew wood (yew-kulele). Made with hand tools except for a drill, I used a chisel to cut the cavities and neck pocket rather than a router (because I don't own one). I wound the pickup myself on a sewing machine. Here I demonstrate the pickup's sound when played with fingers and with a pick.

  • Man I'll say.... you can play, great job all the way around....
  • great playing and killer uke!!! nice job man.
  • The valvetronix, at least the VT15 and up has a small tube and preamp that goes in to the 15 watt solid state amp, hence the warm tube sound. I also like the speakers, what ever they put in them, the little DA5 6in. does not vibrate, unlike the Roland cube and has a three position switch that regulats the power output in the back.
  • cooler than a uke, and gets as loud as you want, nice picking on your part too.
  • Impressively observant of you to tell it was a Valvetronix. I like that amp very much.
  • i dig that yew'k!
  • Absolutely fantastic playing and sound from that pickup.
BTW. the Valvetronix amp is the only non tube-only amp Ive ever owned that I kept.
