Love the song and your style, as a newbie I am really struggling to get that sound out of my CBG how ever hard I try to tune it, it just ain't right, sure you got better to do but any thoughts? regards Mike.
Hi Mark, hi Slim. Strings used are from a standard electric pack Using the 6th(0.046) 4th(0.026) and third (0.013) So this gives you two wound strings and one non wound for the top string. Tuned as either g,g,b or as below,Gb,Gb,Fb. As to steves style of playing, I find it fairly easy to pick out notes/melodies, patterns etc, but its the rythm and the bits inbetween thats hard to hear. He has such a unique style, its almost like it's what he's not playing that you have to listen for to get the rythm. Ultimately as with a lot of things, I think you just have to feel the rythm, rather than think about it. I'll just have to keep practising!!!! Alan
Great stuff Alan. I've been trying to nail that track for a while and it seems to me it's quite tricky for something so apparently simple. What I mean is there's something distinctive about Steve's playing (maybe the cadence or accenting of his picking - especially around the bends and pull-offs in that main riff - I dunno exactly how to describe it though). If you want the song to sound right you have to home in on some of that feel - and you've definitely done that.
Nice guitar too! Sounds just right for that sort of thing.
Hi smojo. I usually use G, G, B. But at the moment I have been trying to learn "what a way to go" from steves latest album and this seems to be down tuned to Gb, Gb, Bb. So, being the lazy bugger that I am, I didnt bother tuning back up! Thanks, Alan.
