Thanks, Kale. I am enjoying the two mandos and kind of looking for ways or tunings that best suit them. This is in standard GDAE and it does not sound quite right to me.
You're really getting your money's worth out of that CBM John. It always sounds good in this context, just stripped down vocals (does whistling count as vocals) and strumming. Perfect.
AGP, I remember hearing the Ledbelly version and liking it. So many versions of this song.
Thanks, Rope. I did not know that about Bo Carter and this song. I like the Mississippi Sheiks quite a bit and their harp player, Will Shade, is my fave harp player. Likely because his style is similar to mine. I remember listening to some 'bawdy' songs in the 60s that I now realize were by Bo. My friend's dad had them on an LP record and we would sneak listen to it when his dad was gone. Such classics as: "Let Me Roll Your Lemon",["Banana in Your Fruit Basket", "Pin in Your Cushion", "Your Biscuits Are Big Enough for Me", "Please Warm My Wiener" and "My Pencil Won't Write No More".
Thanks, Dave. I can harp this song, but felt like wetting my whistle.

Thanks, Bob. Having fun with the mandos.
Great listening to some Trad Blues on that Mando Unc J. Fine playing, singing and... whistling too!
Thanks a lot, Andries. Easy to go back and do this tune I have done many times. Fun switching to the mando.

True, true. Rope, your last song got me in a drinking song mood. Gonna see if I can post Wine Spodee Oddee on mando.
Bo Carter: well, there’s a whole playlist of songs to bring us, Uncle John! (or not...)

Alberta. Well sung and plucked U.J. I like the blue and grey too. The Whistler adds goodness.
