My newly built 3 string Cadburys tin guitar, played acoustically and through my port-able amp.Trying out with a folky tune and badly played bottle-neck blues.I've still got to put fret markers on, as I get a little lost on the long neck.

I'm assuming that it has something to do with the frequency at which the box is vibrating. So, as the Tacoma Narrows Bridge was ripped apart by destructive resonance, the combined vibrations of the top and bottom of the box are trying to do the same.
As you can see in the video, if the back of the tin is dampened the front continues to resonate fine. I'm hoping if I glue some bracing struts inside to the bottom of the box the problem will be solved.
That's nice, I like the sound of a tin! I have made a few tin guitars. A couple had that same "horrible noise", and then out of the blue a ukulele I finished on Tuesday (not tin, but plywood) also makes that noise when a chord is strummed. Can't work out why - sorry to be ignorant, but would adding some bracing sort it out? The only pattern I've noticed is that it seems to happen on the bigger tins/boxes...
Thanks for your supporting words folks, I'm really pleased with the sound it produces acoustically. My last tin guitar is a little quiet, but that's probably due to the thicker neck going through the box, the sound holes and pickup deadening the lid's resonance. I might try and put acoustic strings on it and see if that makes it any louder.

I'll name that tune in one.."Marie's Wedding!"
I never know how to pronounce piezo either..but think pee-ay-zo is about right..we all know what it is though.
Hope my Custard Cream build turns out sounding half as good as this one! (-:
some say pie-zo, some say pee-zo, some say pay-zo...(-;
Looks good and really sounds good.
I attempted to look up how to pronounce PIEZO. Did not find a definitive answer. PIE Zo. Pee-zo, Pee-az-oh, Pie-az-zo. You choose.
