You can oil it up which will fill voids and harden the wood. Slow process. Coat a day until you no longer see open pores after oil dries. Then easy to sand, cut and wood is stable.
This one is pretty solid just the outside is dinged and stained from time.
The top has a weird knot so I'll be using the bottom as the sound board. Problem I'm having is deciding whether or not to sand it.
I have you just like it.
Mine is to delicate to work with.
Those old Windsor boxes usually have great close grain tops. Make for fine acoustic instruments.
