  The fretboard just rests on the lip of the side of the box -- it is a flap lid and the lid can open if necessary. Only those four wood screws hold it shut. So if you wanted to add a piezo/transducer or whatnot, you easily could.
  
  This went home with an upright bass player -- what a change in scale!

  very nice. the fret board just tucks the lid in; does that keep the lid in place?
