In packing some of my work that got flooded, i shot this group of whistle flutes. They are low salt and blackware fired. Thought some of you might like seeing them. The dome shaped one is a Xun. A Chinese globular flute played like blowing over a bottle neck.

Thanks folks, Wade, yes these are ocarinas. I make recorder type flutes as well. And pitch jump flutes which are strange yodelers. I've been making these for quite a while. Hundreds have been made. I've learned to make them play well. They each have their own tuning. Not to pitch but in tune with themselves. Clay shrinks when dried and after firing the result is up to 15% smaller than the soft clay you start with. So the pitch goes up as it dries and fires. However it will hold on to the tuning in the process, so it will be in tune with itself in the end. I'm still without a way to video my efforts, so sound is something yet to bring to the Nation. Someday....
