My Uncle's name is on the Menin Gate in Belgium as one of the missing whose bodies were never found. This music tells a story.
  • Hi Diane the good adress is http://www.artpopu.info but it seems that the site is down at the moment. I'm pretyy sure that it will be corrected soon as it was alive few days ago (surely a probleme on maintenance)

I made an article on CBG nation about it >>> http://www.cigarboxnation.com/profiles/blogs/les-cigar-box-guitar-d...

  • Thanks for those great images and the vimeo.

I could not get the link for Instruments de musique de facture amateur to load.  Can you recheck it for me or post the url?

  • Thank you guys; and Bob, thanks for the tip: i found this lore really fascinating. I wonder if his cello sounded louder than war itself..

  • You will be interested by the story of  Maurice Maréchal who was a musician and become famous during WWI by making a cello (named le poilu - the hairy - nickname of french soldier) with an old door and a german amunition box taht he played often in the trenches. This cello is actually at the museum of Music in Paris and has been remade recently. Here, the trailer of a documentary about the story of Maréchal and his cello  (with the sound of the "new cello") >>> http://vimeo.com/51909393

You will find other WWI cello pictures (and other things) here >>> (in french but pictures talk by themselves) Instruments de musique de facture amateur
