Two Stringer w/corners glued in place #2

Here's my 'finished' version of this 2-Stringer, with corners glued in place. I decided to build a second one to test steel strings and metal frets, as I also like the mellow sound of nylon (or Aquilla Nygut).

  • Hmmm... Looks like cut & paste sometimes inserts CR (or "<br/"> into the text as is seen in the 2nd paragraph of the last posting I made. And, I can't re-edit it. Oh, well.

  • Thanks for the complement, Chris. The design, using cut-off corners was originally proposed by another CBN member called Hipbone Bellaire. My implementation was a bit more extreme than he envisioned, but the idea is his. I did think up the idea of re-using the corners as "corner covers" on the top corner edges of the bottom part of the box. I think it makes the roughly octagonal sound board look like is was raised up above the cigar box resonator. Hope you can follow that.

I've got another one almost finished, with a smaller corner cuts, cut-nailfrets, three metal strings, and an enlarged head stock to hold 3 open
geared tuners. Right now I'm in the middle of gluing up the frets. Using
2-part epoxy glue, but still messy. But, better than super glue. At
least I can glue a few frets on before the glue drys, repositioning them
as needed, etc. Will put photos up when I'm done.

  • very unique design. very cool
  • I'm using 2 ukulele friction tuners. On my 1 and 2 stringers I tend to go with the uke tuners, while on 3+ stringers I go with geared, usually with a more complex headstock and neck design.
