  I,ve rebuilt lots of guitars and ukuleles where the top or bottom had separated and bracing needed fixed. Getting the parts back together in line is impossible. And it,s easier to sand an edge is easier than the side.

  You bet- my first Dulcimer I built I cut the top before gluing it on- what a mistake, trying to get it to line up perfectly and then weigh it down when you can't be positive it's lined up correctly everywhere all at once...

  I like to have some extra wood to trim off too. It trims up with little glue residue that way
